Evening in Ginza・銀座の夜

I started with the idea of documenting the changes to Ginza since the photo of Nakano Masataka in his book Tokyo Nobody, taken in 1995. His photo was displayed next to mine at the just ended Kyoto Journal exhibition at Kyotographie 2025. According to a look at my maps application, almost none of the buildings from 1995 remain 30 years later, with the exception of the Ginza Lion restaurant at left.

This photo was taken in the evening, where you can see lots of activity. I went back the next morning at 4am (below) and was surprised at the number of taxicabs and occasional trash truck speeding their way down Ginza Chuo Dori at that time. There were even a few people walking around. Whether they were up late or up early was difficult to ascertain. A few of both, I think.
