I started with the idea of documenting the changes to Ginza since the photo of Nakano Masataka in his book Tokyo Nobody, taken in 1995. His photo was displayed next to mine at the just ended Kyoto Journal exhibition at Kyotographie 2025. According to a look at my maps application, almost none of the buildings from 1995 remain 30 years later, with the exception of the Ginza Lion restaurant at left.

This photo was taken in the evening, where you can see lots of activity. I went back the next morning at 4am (below) and was surprised at the number of taxicabs and occasional trash truck speeding their way down Ginza Chuo Dori at that time. There were even a few people walking around. Whether they were up late or up early was difficult to ascertain. A few of both, I think.

1995年に撮影された中野正貴の写真集『Tokyo Nobody』以来の銀座の変化を記録しようというアイデアから始まった。彼の写真は、ちょうど終了した Kyotographie 2025の京都ジャーナル展で私の写真の隣に展示されていた。私の地図アプリを見ると、左の銀座ライオンを除いて、1995年当時の建物は30年経ってもほとんど残っていない。

この写真は夕方に撮ったもので、多くの活気が見られる。翌朝4時にもう一度行ってみたが（下）、その時間に銀座中央通りを疾走するタクシーや時折ゴミ収集車の多さに驚いた。歩いている人も数人いた。彼らが夜更かししているのか早起きしているのかはわからなかった。その両方だと思う。
