Just in time for the new year, the historic Sanjo Ohashi Bridge has been redone with new wooden railings, a barrier between pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and brand new lighting from one end to the other. It’s a bright new icon of Kyoto.

The Sanjo Ohashi has existed in some form since at least 1590 (this bridge is from 1950), and is the ending point of both the Tokaido and Nakasendo roads, immortalized in Utagawa Hiroshige's famous ukiyo-e woodblock print series, The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido (1833-1834).

歴史ある三条大橋が新年を迎えてリニューアルされた。木製の手すりが取り付けられ、歩行者と車が分離され、端から端まで真新しい照明が設置された。京都の新しいアイコンとして輝きを放っている。

三条大橋は、少なくとも1590年（この橋は1950年）から何らかの形で存在しており、歌川広重の有名な浮世絵「東海道五十三次」（1833-1834年）にも登場する東海道と中山道の終点である。
