The first sakura are blooming while the morning fog lingers. Mt. Arashi, the mountain on the left side; on the right is the Katsura/Oi/Hozu River. A man I met while taking this photo told me there had been snow in the mountains overnight.

The Hoshinoya resort is alongside the river; evolved from the 17th century home of Ryoi Suminokura, Japan‘s first shipping tycoon, who modified the river so it could be used to transport timber and other goods downstream. The little house above is Daihikaku Senkoji, a small temple established by Suminokura in tribute to the workers who perished working on his river engineering projects.

朝霧が残る中、初桜が咲いています。左側が嵐山、右側が大堰川（桂川）です。この写真を撮っているときに出会った男性によると、一晩で山に雪が積もったそうだ。

星のやリゾートは、川沿いにある。もともとは17世紀初頭に角倉了以が建てたものだそうです。 上の小さな家は 大悲閣千光寺で、角倉が河川工事で亡くなった労働者を弔うために建てた寺である。
