Yesterday was Kyoto's annual Jidai Matsuri (時代祭), a parade with hundreds of actors dressed in period clothes; similar to a Renaissance Fair or other historic reenactments. The participants represent famous people in Japan's history and are grouped by historical period. The costumes are very detailed and quite striking.

Shown here is an actor representing Tomoe-Gozen (巴 御前), a late 12th century female samurai warrior.
