This giant gate in the water is one of Japan's most famous icons. It's a little off the beaten tourist path (in Hiroshima), so this was my first time there after almost 30 trips to Japan. This view is towards Itsukushima Island across a small strait from the mainland. At low tide shown here, you can walk to the gate, and many people are doing just that.
