The Kyoto Prefectural Library is one of many western style buildings built at the beginning of the 20th Century that still exist in Kyoto. Opened in 1909, the library sustained damage in the 1995 Hanshin (Kobe) Earthquake. It was completely rebuilt in 2000 while maintaining the original façade. The basement, shown in the lower half of this photo is completely new, and looks out onto a small subterranean garden.

京都府立図書館は、20世紀初頭に建てられた西洋風の建築物のひとつで、京都には今でも残っている。1909年に開館したこの図書館は、1995年の阪神淡路大震災で被害を受けた。2000年に全面的に再建され、元の外観はそのままに保たれた。この写真の下半分に写っている地下部分は完全に新しく、小さな庭に面している。
