The just opened Sixth St. Bridge lit up at dusk with Downtown Los Angeles in the distance. The new bridge replaces a century old bridge, crossing over freeways, train lines and LA River.
The bridge is designed as a series of hoops with steel cables to support the bridge platform. Where those hoops meet their ground posts, there are large shock absorbers to minimize earthquake damage.
